Be Your Own Boss

Being a boss is a mindset - more than it is a position or title at work. It's about confidence and trusting yourself. Your instincts. Your skills. Your Gut. And it's also about taking responsibility for the decisions you make whether the outcome is favorable, or not.

This doesn't mean that being a boss is easy. In fact, it can be one of the hardest things you'll ever do. But it's worth it. Because when you're the boss, you're in control. You're the one steering the ship. And that is an incredibly empowering feeling.

So if you want to be your own boss, even if you work for someone else, here are a few things you need to do:

1. Identify what success means to YOU. Be clear on what you want out of life, your career, your relationship. Think about what your goals are! Once you have a clear understanding of what you're striving for, it will be much easier to make decisions that will set you on a path to achieve those things.

2. Take risks. Like it or not, being a boss comes with risks no matter how you slice it. Yes, even in your personal life! In business, risks are often financial. In life, often emotional. But one must be comfortable and willing to take risks to accomplish great things! My advice on this topic in particular is that when you have an opportunity to take a risk... go for it. Even if it doesn't work out, you'll learn from the experience and be better for it in the long run.

3. Be confident! This may sound like it goes without saying, but you might be surprised at how easy it is to second guess yourself when entering new territory. Especially if someone else involved has more experience than you! But that doesn't mean that YOU can't provide valuable direction and insight to whatever the task at hand may be. Trust yourself, and be confident expressing your thoughts.

4. Take responsibility for your actions, always. Remember, you are in charge of yourself at all times. Every move and every decision you make is 100% on you.

In short: don't be afraid to be your own boss. Trust yourself, and make the decisions that are right for you. You're the only one who knows what's best for you – so make sure you're the one in control!
